It seems like every other blog post here is becoming something about Magpul. Again, I’ll reiterate, I’m not a shill for them. I just really dig the products, and I write about stuff that interests me. Unsurprisingly, it seems like every new launch from Magpul HQ is something I need in my life at the right time – meaning right now.
For example, I’ve been a bit Smith Optics guy for years. I have several pairs of Prospect tactical sunglasses that I’ve worn out so much, I have two pairs of frames and replaced the lenses in both. Sadly though, I had an over-eager dog destroy a pair of frames last week so I’ve been in the market for a new pair of shades.
As if on cue, Magpul sent me a press release announcing their entry into the eyewear market. With three models to choose from, Magpul continues to extend their lifestyle brand to cover any and all of your outdoor needs.
“We build products for the real world, with every item designed for a unique mission that provides more value, simplicity, and features than anyone else. At Magpul, we’ve always felt strongly about eyewear because the need for reliable eye protection is rooted in our daily lives. Whether we’re at work or at play, we understand the demand for good-looking eyewear that protects us as across the range of activities that we and our customers engage in every day. As a result, we’ve created ballistic rated eyewear that’s engineered from quality materials and finished with an enduring design.”
The Terrain and Summit models are essentially identical, but in different sizes: Terrain is for those folks with larger domes, and the Summit is a bit smaller. Both offer ballistic and safety rated protection but look just as good on the range as off.
But the Explorer model is going to be my jam. A bit closer to a classic wayfarer casual style, they still offer ballistic protection without looking like you just stepped out of a military personnel carrier.
I could throw all the specs at you, but it’s easier for you to dig into their product pages yourself. CHECK IT OUT.
Like previous articles, I can’t write a post without mentioning the Magpul marketing efforts yet again. The video production team knocked it out of the park with this one. The launch video, with significantly increased production value, is much more polished than the typical tongue-in-cheek videos that normally accompany new products. Mike Mayberry, VP of Product Design, narrates over sweepingly cinematic B-roll that highlights not only the life that Magpul wants you to live but the detail that went into the new sunglasses.
If you get to the end of the video and don’t want to immediately burn your cubicle to the ground and trade it for some outdoor adventure, then you are just dead on the inside. Try to change my mind.
